L.E. Thiele Consulting was formed in 1991 under the ownership and operation of Larry E. Thiele as its principal engineer. Primary focus of the company's business began in the electric utility industry using the experience of 20 years engineering work directly within electric utilities in Illinois and Wisconsin, primarily in long range electric generation and transmission planning. Through 2013 the company provided engineering consulting services, expert witness services, and software development and consulting.

Larry Thiele Background

Received BS and MS degrees in electrical engineering from the University of Wisconsin, Madison, Wisconsin, in 1968 and 1972. Specialized in computer applications for electric power systems analysis and computer modeling of large-scale engineered systems. Interned with American Electric Power Service Corporation, New York, NY, in 1967 developing electric power application software.

1968-1971:   Planning engineer with Wisconsin Public Service Corporation, Green Bay, Wisconsin, performing electric generation and transmission planning studies.

1971-1972:   Lecturer and instructor in electrical engineering at the University of Wisconsin, Madison, Wisconsin.

1972-1975:   Systems analyst and programmer with Commonwealth Edison Company, Chicago, Illinois, developing electric generation and transmission planning software. Developed large network theory into fault analysis and load flow analysis software and optimized software designs to achieve high speed solutions.

1975-1991:   Headed up the system planning area at Wisconsin Public Service Corporation, Green Bay, Wisconsin, directing the company's long range electric utility generation and transmission planning. Involved engineering plan development and analysis, generation production cost analyses, electric power flow analyses, need analyses, construction budgeting, generating plant and high voltage transmission line facility licensing, statewide inter-utility planning coordination, developing statewide plans for Wisconsin's Advance Plan generation planning process, and serving as an expert witness in Advance Plan regulatory proceedings, facility licensing proceedings, and rate case proceedings. Also involved in intercompany power supply contracting, interconnection contracting, and transmission use negotiations. Supervised a staff of eight engineering professionals and several technicians and served on several intercompany planning committees and task forces and the nationwide Edison Electric Institute (EEI) System Planning Committee. Was a licensed professional engineer in the State of Wisconsin, USA.

1991-2013:   Developed and operated a new company, L.E. Thiele Consulting, to provide engineering consulting services and contract software development within the electric utility industry. Developed some of the country's first commercial electric power trading and brokering software products. Carried out research on the development and implementation of very-large-scale electric network simulation software. Provided expert witness services in electric utility regulatory proceedings. Retired from the engineering consulting profession in 2013.

2014 to present:   Currently doing independent analytical research.
